Green buildings and energy efficiency

Our experts in the fields of commercial real estate, renewable energy, environment, infrastructure and project finance, make up a team uniquely qualified to advise on low- or zero-emissions buildings. Within the next 20 years, around 75 per cent of the built environment will be either new or renovated. Improvements in the energy efficiency of new and existing buildings will bring major benefits for the environment. By implementing the Energy Efficiency Directive EED 2012/27/EU as an ex ante mechanism to attract 2014-2020 EU funds, Poland will make a giant leap forward in the coming years. The EED sets an annual renovation target of three per cent for public buildings with a total useful floor area over 250 m2 that are owned and occupied by central government from the beginning of 2014 onwards. Poland, in line with article 5 (6) EED, notified the European Commission about  exercising its right to an alternative approach setting the annual renovation target for public buildings in Poland on 2122,15 Mtoe by 2020. To meet at least the national minimum energy performance requirements, central government buildings will need renovation. These renovated buildings should be brought as close as possible in terms of energy performance level to the requirements for newly-built or nearly-zero energy buildings.
